In Hastings & St Leonards I am making a series of digital artworks 'bringing back the bygone' exploring memory, decay & changes in a seaside town facing gentrification. This is a self-selecting, inspirational art experience in three scenes 'nostalgia for lost futures'.
I am recreating heritage of St Leonards Pier (destroyed in WWII) & the Albert Memorial (lost to fire in 1973) as a series of mobile artworks - virtual 3D models with anachronistic binaural sonic signatures experienced using headphones & smartphones, triggered from vintage postcards.
Launching as a downloadable app during Coastal Currents Festival 2018 at the start of September, with an artists talk on 05.09.18 in Printed Matter Bookshop & a showcase event at Hastings Museum on 22nd September (who hold related objects in their collection). This free drop-in event allows everyone to experience Apparitions on our demonstration iPads & smartphones, to download for their own phones, & take away trigger image postcards.
The talk will exemplify pre-digital pioneers accelerated by the visionary & eccentric Victorian architecture of piers & social memories - including Magnus Volks, Decimus Burton, Eugenius Birch. We will then give out the special AR enabled postcards with the link to download my free artwork as an app.
The work will be available online, the postcards can be collected free from Hastings Library, Borough Wines & other independent outlets listed here (https://apparitionslive.wordpress.com/map/)
The audience is anyone with a smartphone can take part, & take it away, we also hold 4 demonstration tablets to allow other people to access & experience Apparitions . It is very important to me the developing of new audiences and new social equity. We have 2000 postcards from our sponsor Judge Sampson in Hastings
