Photoworks presents Mishka Henner: Desert Island Pics
Which eight photographs would you take with you to a desert island?
Mishka Henner has been described as a modern-day Duchamp for his appropriation of image-rich digital technologies including Google Earth, YouTube and Taaz.
Having trained as a documentary photographer, Henner is seen as a trailblazer in a movement of photographers without cameras – having replaced shutter pressing with an interest in images, but not necessarily in making images.
He was nominated for the 2013 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize for No Man’s Land a survey of prostitution sites in Spain and Italy made using images found on Google Street View.
Loosely following the format of Radio 4′s Desert Island Discs and hosted by Stephen Bull*, Henner will reveal the photos he’d take with him to a desert island and discuss how they reflect his life and career.
This event is part of an ongoing series of Photoworks talks. Previous Desert Island Pics castaways include Martin Parr, Sean O’Hagan and Anna Fox.
*Stephen Bull is an artist, writer and lecturer and Photography Course Leader at University for the Creative Arts.
