The Dream Factory

The Dream Factory is a hangout & collaboration space in Vine Street, in the heart of Brighton’s North Laines. From 2pm -9pm, Tues – Thurs in September (Wed & Thurs on last week of September) this spacious Brighton loft apartment with kitchen space will be transformed into a unique, collaborative 3rd space where up to 30 Brighton Festival attendees at a time can relax, connect, innovate and break bread together. The brochure has printed this as Space by mistake, but please note that this is called The Dream Factory.

The Dream Factory team is providing this members space during the Brighton Digital Festival in order to bring together the diverse culture of people who share a passion for digital culture and see what connection, innovation and social cohesion comes from the experience. We envisage many of these face to face meetings at the Dream Factory will lead to events for BDF 2014, as some amazing unique collaborations have already begun.

Want to know who’s already involved?

We won’t be publishing membership lists directly, but you can find out what kind of skills members and non-members are interested to collaborate with through our anonymous Collaboration Ring open to everyone attending the BDF. If you haven’t been part of this yet, please do complete the Collaboration Survey and add your uniqueness to the melting pot.

As well as providing serendipitous collaboration and meetup opportunities, usually the best kind, once The Dream Factory opens, you will be able to see online who is inside the space and what collaboration opportunities there might exist for you that day. We have also launched a Book a Sofa Facility to see if we can help members ensure a seat at the same time as someone they would like to collaborate with.

Come sign up at our membership page while there are still places available.

Supporting the Brighton Digital Festival

To be an important hub for the Brighton Digital Festival, in the space itself we will have an interactive noticeboard (interactive as in sticky back velcro with QR codes) of all BDF events, so you will always be able to know what’s coming up. A great reason to come down at lunchtimes.

We will also be equipping a team of bloggers and volunteers with little portable wifi-enabled hard drives we’re calling Communifi Boxes to encourage people to upload photos, videos and comments during or after live BDF events who are happy to be filmed. These boxes will bring all that gathered media from across events to be shown in The Dream Factory (and shared online) to encourage word of mouth reviews, discussions and of course innovation. Let us know if you would like to volunteer for any of this.

Launch & Events

The Dream Factory will be launching on 3 September at 2pm with a mystery launch event throughout the day thanks to a special collaboration team including Root Experience. So watch out for that on Twitter #dreambtn nearer the time.

We are also delighted to currently be hosting 4 diverse BDF events in The Dream Factory.

The Happy Startup School will be offering a free happy hour drop in and workshops for budding entrepreneurs across 5 afternoons starting on Wednesday 4 September at 3pm. This will help anyone inspired by any of the innovations in the BDF to start the bold move towards self-sufficiency.

Create Brighton will be hosting their 4th meeting on 10 September at 6pm with talks from three Brighton tech startups. Free for members, donation otherwise.

Two Two-night interactive digital photography workshops by the talented Brighton based photographer and lecturer Julia Horbaschk  18 & 25 September, 6 – 9pm.

We will also be hosting City Camp 3.5  on 25th September from noon, showing off the kind of projects which surface when you encourage your community to focus on solving real problems and we will be attempting some very interesting innovations in empowering communities in real time.

See the Dream Factory home page for a full schedule of our opening times and events. And contact us if you have anything you’d like to use the space for during 3-5pm.

Discussions and Online Collaboration Platform

Finally, we want to draw your attention to the new Discussions Page where you can read and suggest topics of discussion or inspiration to raise with other members online and later in the hangout space. Feel free to propose any discussion which is important to you and related to digital culture, social inclusion and innovation.

All genuine comments are automatically inserted into The Dream Factory private Trello Online Collaboration Board which will become our online home during our hangout and collaboration time.

The main purpose of the online collaboration space is to allow all of us to propose ideas, suggest resources and note conversations even if we are not in the space at same time.

The Vision

The vision and purpose of the Dream Factory is also to inspire a permanent, cooperative collaboration space for individuals to mentor and inspire each other across industries. By connecting ideas from this space to the coworking and hackerspaces of the City, we hope to inspire passionate individuals towards collaborative entrepreneurship and inspire some part in building a more self-sufficient local economy.

Please bring your uniqueness to this experience and let’s see what we can create together.

Best wishes,

The Dream Factory
