Glimmers
Have you ever lost a phone message? What if it appeared across time in someone else’s phone? Glimmers app connects you to the future.
When was the last time you left a phone message that never arrived? Where do all these messages go? Did you imagine they are lost in the ether forever? … What if they aren’t, what if they can be found, across time, by passers by, in the areas they were sent from?
It is increasingly severe solar electric storms that cause electromagnetic disruption to the space-time continuum. Peaking in ten-year cycles these storms cause future messages to be lost across time bridges and appear now, ever so briefly in the areas they were sent from, through the mobile devices of the present day. The Glimmers app works as a conduit for these telecommunication anomalies, crossing your phone line with a device in the future, intercepting the lost messages to your phone.
Glimmers is a fantasy sci-fi treasure hunt that takes place around Brighton town centre (beginning at the train station). It is a window into a dystopian future vision of Brighton in which massive social change allows a secretive cult called The Belonging to exercise its power. Glimmers uses the gps capabilities of the phone to create a theatrical storytelling event that can be experienced at any time by participants and will take approximately 1 hour. You will need a full battery charge and be wearing headphones. Dress for the weather because you will be outdoors.
Rolemop is a Brighton based arts company that love to tell stories. Their production history has often used digital and interactive technologies to create theatrical art-works across a large range of formats and genres.
