Stand-Up Comedy and Improv for Presentation Skills – A Workshop for Digital and IT Professionals - 2014

A practical workshop drawing on comedy/ improvisation to improve speaking and presentation skills.

Speaking and presentation skills are important, but challenging for many people. In the digital/ creative sector, presenting is important – whether it’s speaking to an audience at a trade show, pitching for business, presenting to a client, reporting to a boss, speaking up in a meeting – so much of what we do is presentation.

The comedian is the ultimate presenter, and a valuable model for us – engaging with the audience, delivering a message with impact, entertaining, being persuasive. The ability to improvise is an additional asset, enabling us to be spontaneous, think on our feet, and turn a potential disaster into a creative opportunity. We will draw on both these approaches to develop our speaking skills.

Suitable for those who are scared s***less by having to give a speech, as well as for those who are confident but would like to hone their skills; also those who would just like to be funnier.

You will come away from this very practical session having practised and improved upon the type of presentation that is most important for you, and having had the opportunity to give a short presentation to the group, with support from the facilitator.

This interactive workshop is facilitated by Gerry Thompson of Positive Comedy Learning and Development, and hosted by Skiff. It’s free, but please register in advance.
