Bookmachine Brighton sponsored by CompletelyNovel
Come and meet publishers, editors, writers and designers with a passion for books. Julia Kingsford, CEO of World Book Night will talk about global and digital collaboration in the publishing industry, and win prizes donated by fabulous publishers.
BookMachine Brighton is planning something special! If you work in publishing and live in or around Brighton, then come and join us for our next meetup on 25th September. Not only will we be tying in with the Brighton Digital Festival, we’ll also be coordinating with BookMachine events happening in London, Oxford, Barcelona and New York to add a whole new global flavour to the event.
So, who goes to BookMachine parties?
Well, a combination of people really. First of all you’ve got publishing professionals – designers, editors, and marketeers. Then there’s the app designers and developers that work with them. And finally, of course there’s book lovers and writers.
Bookmachine is a network that was launched from scratch on social media and incudes online platform Bookmachine.me where publishing professionals can connect online afterwards.
What’s happening at the event?
We’ve found that the best ingredients for a good party are simply a great venue, chatty people and some drinks. Don’t worry if you don’t know anyone – it’s always a friendly crowd!
We’re going to have special guest Julia Kingsford with us to help kick off conversations. Julia is the CEO of World Book Night, an incredible initiative that puts 50,000 books in the hands of volunteers to share amongst communities and people who may never have owned a book before. It’s no mean feat, and involves combining some of the most traditional technology and offline social networks with digital collaboration and interaction.
We are also running a prize draw in collaboration with some fabulous publishers so there will be some great book-related prizes to be won.
The event is organised by local writer Sarah Ann Juckes and will be sponsored by:
CompletelyNovel: A website offering brilliant tools for writers looking to see their book in print, and connect with an online publishing community.
ValoBox: A new service offering pay-as-you go books, delivered through your browser. All BookMachine Brighton attendees will get £5 of free credit to spend on any books they like on ValoBox.
